RSYC ANNOUNCED THE COMPLETION OF BREAKWATER PROJECT AND NEW SUPERYACHT BERTHS AT THE SINGAPORE YACHT SHOW 2018

RSYC ANNOUNCED THE COMPLETION OF BREAKWATER PROJECT AND NEW SUPERYACHT BERTHS AT THE SINGAPORE YACHT SHOW 2018

Singapore, 9 April 2018 Taking place from 12 -15 April 2018, Republic of Singapore Yacht Club (RSYC) will be present at the Singapore Yacht Show at the East Pavilion, booth number K21a.

The oldest yacht club in Asia, the Republic of Singapore Yacht Club (RSYC) at West Coast Ferry Road returns to participate in the upcoming Singapore Yacht Show as it fulfills the growing regional demand for berthing facilities. RSYC has recently completed the construction of the breakwater project, costing $4.43 million in January 2018. The completion of the breakwater has reduced the wave motion significantly in the marina. Boat owners are experiencing calmer waters around the berths especially during high tides and strong wind conditions within the marina.

As yachting becomes increasingly popular in this affluent market, RSYC is set to expand the wet berth facilities to meet the discerning needs of Singapore’s growing community of boaters and potential boat owners. One new row of pontoons and one upgraded existing row of pontoons will add 11 new berths to accommodate superyachts up to 120 feet. This will bring the total number of wet berths to 115, besides the existing 206 dry berths on modern rack facility. This will help ease the current berthing crunch situation at marinas, as more well-heeled Singaporeans take to the seas in high-end yachts. The new wet berth layout will be shared at the booth during the Singapore Yacht Show.

Interesting to the regional boating community, as well as the Singapore community at large, are RSYC’s numerous advantages as both a boating/yachting and a recreation club, such as its rich heritage as Singapore’s first and original yacht club, its family-friendly, unpretentious and relaxing ambience and its connection to more than 100 reciprocal clubs worldwide. RSYC is conveniently located for yacht owners with its strategic location close to popular destinations in Singapore’s waters and offers members competitive fuel rates to enhance the enjoyment of their hobby.

Do visit RSYC’s booth at the Singapore Yacht Show to discover the rich heritage and friendly nautical lifestyle! RSYC will be offering attractive berthing and membership rates exclusively at the Singapore Yacht Show. Register a berth at the booth and enjoy perks including but not limited to rebate of one month berthing fees and complimentary superior room stay in the Marina Lodge. Not ready to berth your boat yet? There’s still reason to swing by RSYC booth as there will be a lucky draw contest. Simply drop your business card at the booth and stand a chance to win attractive prizes!

The Singapore Yacht Show takes place from 12-15 April at the One°15 Marina Club in Sentosa Cove. Guests can visit RSYC at the East Pavilion - Booth K21a.

Wärtsilä donates first-ever Seabin in Asia to the Republic of Singapore Yacht Club

Wärtsilä donates first-ever Seabin in Asia to the Republic of Singapore Yacht Club

Wärtsilä Singapore, Press release, 10 April 2018 at 4:30 pm (Singapore)

The technology group Wärtsilä is continuing its mission to bring the Seabin Project’s floating rubbish bins around the world with the installation of a Seabin at the Republic of Singapore Yacht Club (RSYC). This is the first fully-functional Seabin in Asia, and the first to be installed by Wärtsilä anywhere in the world outside of Finland. The global cooperation with the Seabin Project began in 2017 in conjunction with Finland’s centennial and now continues as part of Wärtsilä’s Future of the Seas initiative.

The Seabin, a floating rubbish bin located in the water at marinas, docks, yacht clubs and commercial ports, will collect all floating rubbish by drawing in water from the surface. The water is then pumped back into the marina, leaving litter and debris trapped in the catch bag in the Seabin to be disposed of properly. The Seabin also has the potential to collect some of the oils and pollutants floating on the water surface. The Seabins currently use low energy submersible water pumps that can utilise conventional, alternative and clean energy sources. These may include solar, wave or wind power, depending on the location and available technology.

"Our purpose is to enable sustainable societies with smart technology. This includes cooperating with like-minded individuals and companies, like Pete Ceglinski and the Seabin Project, to develop and implement new environmental technology. We are proud to collaborate with the Republic of Singapore Yacht Club – the oldest yacht club in Asia – to install the first-ever Seabin in the region in their waters," said Mervin Ong, Managing Director of Wärtsilä Singapore.

“The Seabin project will make a huge difference, collecting all floating rubbish, oils, fuel, debris to tackle a local problem that has global implications,” Mr Balakrishnan, Commodore of the Republic of Singapore Yacht Club, said. “We are delighted to be involved in this project that will improve the marina water quality and achieve our social responsibility of having a sustainable environment for the boaters’ community, in line with the Marina Industry Association standards.”

Seabin Project's Pete Ceglinski said: "Singapore is a leader in environmental sustainability, with a blueprint and a vision for a liveable and sustainable country. Early on, the correlation between a healthy environment and the quality of life was recognised here – which is why it’s no surprise that this ‘garden city’ is the first in Asia to install a Seabin. We hope that this partnership between Wärtsilä and the Republic of Singapore Yacht Club inspires other organisations in the country – and in the region – to consider new innovations that do good for the environment."

Wärtsilä will also showcase the Seabin at the Singapore Yacht Show, to be held at ONE° 15 Marina Sentosa Cove, from 12-15 April 2018.

THE FUTURE OF RYSC'S MARINA

THE FUTURE OF RYSC'S MARINA

We are pleased to announce that the construction of the breakwater project is now completed. With the completion of the project, we are experiencing calmer waters around our berths especially during high tides and strong wind conditions within the marina. The improved conditions in the wet berths are attracting more interested boaters to relocate their boats and berth at RSYC.

We are eagerly anticipating the extension of our pontoons to accommodate even more boats and the new additional berths are expected to be ready by 1st Quarter 2018 to welcome new boats. Meanwhile, we still have limited number of existing berths available. So, please make reservations with us now to avoid disappointment! Priority is given based on a "first reserved, first served" basis.

We are proud to be a member of Marina Industries Association (MIA) and is preparing for the Gold Anchor Scheme, an marina industry recognised award. RSYC will be upgrading the Marina facilities in order to meet the stringent industry standards and offer the best services to all boaters.

Coming up, we will have a boaters' night in Mid April 2018 where we will share more exciting news about our upcoming Marina plans. Do keep a look out for the actual date of the event will be announce soon!

FUEL DOCK USAGE

FUEL DOCK USAGE

Dear Members/Boaters,

It has been brought to our attention thru multiple feedbacks as well as our observation that the fuel dock is now used to embark/disembark passengers. The purpose of the fuel dock is for refuelling solely and should not be a pick up/drop off point for any boaters especially more so for charter/fishing boats.

Please refrain from using the dock for any other purposes but fuelling for everyone’s safety as well as convenience of being able to take on fuel without congestion. All embarkation/disembarkation should be at Lay By for Dry Stacker Boats and at the Berth for Wet Berth Boats. We seek everyone’s cooperation in making RSYC an EXCELLENT Club for all.

NO WAKE ZONE

NO WAKE ZONE

Recently, it has been noted a spike in boats speeding in/out of our marina which causes damages to the structure as well as discomfort to fellow boaters. In worse situations, it could cause a “Man over Board” to unsuspecting boaters or staff alike. In order to prevent this, we wish to remind all boats entering/exiting our marina to adhere to the policy of “No Wake Zone”.

PHOTO UPDATE: BIRD'S EYE VIEW OF OUR CLUBHOUSE, MARINA & TENNIS COURT

PHOTO UPDATE: BIRD'S EYE VIEW OF OUR CLUBHOUSE, MARINA & TENNIS COURT

Have you ever wondered how the Club and its surroundings would look like from high up in the air?

Well, here are some photos showing the Clubhouse, rooftop tennis court and marina against a backdrop of the mesmerizing sunset.

ROOFTOP TENNIS COURT

As part of our continuing efforts to provide value to the Club membership, members of RSYC will now be able to have a game (or two) of tennis at the Club’s new rooftop tennis court.

This latest addition to the Club – a standard sized recreational tennis court – has a 15cm thick, two-tiered surface made of high impact polypropylene for better playability.

High nettings around the court ensures that tennis balls don’t fly out to the ground or marina; and six metal halide lighting of 1K watts each will provide sufficient lighting for better visibility during night time.

SISTERS’ ISLANDS MARINE PARK

SISTERS’ ISLANDS MARINE PARK

The Sisters’ Islands Marine Park is a new initiative by NParks, announced in June 2014 that aims to give members of the public a first-hand experience of Singapore’s rich marine biodiversity. Through this initiative, Singapore’s first marine park had been established to protect Singapore’s coral reefs, which support an ecosystem inhabited by rare and endangered species of seahorses, clams, sponges and other marine life. The marine park will be a platform for outreach, educational, conservation and research activities related to our native marine biodiversity.

WHERE IS THE MARINE PARK?

The Sisters’ Islands Marine Park spans about 40 hectares around Sisters' Islands and along the western reefs of both St John's Island and Pulau Tekukor. The location was chosen due to its variety of habitats including coral reefs, sandy shores and seagrass areas.

WHAT’S GOING ON AT THE MARINE PARK?

Members of the public can participate in the following activities at the Sisters’ Island Marine Park:

Learn about Singapore’s marine biodiversity at Sisters’ Islands – Marine Park Public GalleryThe Gallery features the rich marine biodiversity in Singapore’swaters and provides an overview of the Sisters’ Islands Marine Park, including a 3D diorama of its dive trails.

Dive at Singapore’s first Dive Trail – Divers will be guided through 20 stations marked by signs which will bring their attention to the variety of marine biodiversity andreef features present in Singapore’s waters. Divers can also contribute towards the upkeep of the dive trails, for example by helping to sweep off accumulated algae on the station signboards using cleaning brushes.

Experience the marine biodiversity during the Intertidal Guided Walks – Members of the public can see the shore teeming with marine life during intertidal guided walks conducted by experienced nature guides from April onwards.

A range of other outreach programmes will also be rolled out to encourage greater appreciation of Singapore’s natural heritage.
