Saturday 22 November 2014 was a day of giving for members of Republic of Singapore Yacht Club – as we collaborated with West Coast Garden Neighbourhood Committee, West Coast Family Life Champion, West Coast Community Development & Welfare Fund Committee and West Coast Citizens’ Consultative Committee – to bring beneficiaries from 32 low-income families on yacht rides to Pulau Hantu for a day of fun and family bonding.

Gracing the event was RSYC’s newest Honorary Member Mr S Iswaran (Adviser To West Coast GROs, Minister, Prime Minister’s Office, Second Minister For Home Affairs And Trade And Industry), who was welcomed by Commodore Wee Keng Hwee, Committee Member Charlie Chan and General Manager Trevor De Silva.

Whilst waiting for the skippers and their boats, beneficiaries received prizes in a lucky draw and played fun games, which set the spirit and energy for the outing.

After the requisite group photo, beneficiaries were assigned to their respective boats and skippers at 9am and promptly set off to Pulau Hantu right after the customary flag-off by Mr Iswaran.

At Pulau Hantu, beneficiaries – young and old – let their hair down and participated in a variety of fun games and activities that encouraged teamwork, coordination and more importantly family bonding. The games were so much fun that even our boating members couldn’t resist but join in!

The jetski rides were doubtlessly very popular with the children, many of whom went for more than one ride!

Shortly after, buffet lunch was served, where everyone tucked into yummy treats and ice-cream while enjoying the breeze and idyllic surroundings.

Arriving back at the Club at approximately 2.30pm, the tired but contented beneficiaries were served with some refreshments at The Wharf before bidding goodbyes and giving thanks to their respective skippers and other participating members.

A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL

The Club would like to thank all members, boating members, volunteers, sponsors and supporters who contributed to making RSYC Annual Charity Cruise 2014 possible for the beneficiaries. We look forward to your continued support for next year’s Charity Cruise.
