Focus
- To
maintain and protect the marine environment through education
and action.
- To
be open to responding to calls for protection in Singapore waters
and especially active on issues directly affecting the RSYC
and immediate neighbourhood.
- To
promote and encourage environmentally-friendly procedures within
the RSYC and its membership.
- To
provide added value to the RSYC membership.
Roadmap
- Develop
an outreach programme for RSYC members to educate and inform
concerning marine environmental issues.
- Work
towards improving in-house practices and improving the marine
environment in the immediate vicinity of the RSYC.
- Develop
relationships with local and international environmental agencies
where appropriate to the focus aims.
- Provide
opportunities for educational, positive action and fun activities
for the RSYC membership to improve understanding and the condition
of the marine environment.
Areas
of responsibility within the MESC
- Magazine/publicity
(writing articles, website content provider, monitoring world
events and breakthroughs, new studies, findings, conferences
etc. on the marine environment and bringing them to MESC and
members' attention).
- Internal
practices (working with other sub-comms to suggest and promote
good marine environmental practices within the RSYC).
- Outreach
board (educational materials for display in the dedicated notice
board section).
- Lecture
series (inviting guests, research boats, talks, videos, slide
shows, etc.).
- Events
(trips to nature reserves and places of special ecological interest,
conservancy events like beach cleanups and so forth).
