Powered Pleasure Craft Driving Licence (PPCDL)
To experience the freedom of driving your own boat, sign up for the Powered Pleasure Craft Course and obtain your licence. The schedule is as follows:

Route Planning Basic Course, Cruise Classic (CC)
The 1.5 day CC course aims to help the boater to identify his or her positions on the chart and at sea; identify navigational hazards; and to determine the best and the safest route to his destination, taking into account the local rules, procedures and practices. The course covers in detail the following topics:

  • Use of the necessary information on a navigation chart; 
  • Lay off courses to steer; 
  • Plot the positions of the boat using co-ordinates and/or bearings obtained from aids to navigation and other fixed landmarks;  
  • Determine travel time and ETA.
  • Identifying navigation hazards;
  • Identifying and use of transit bearings;
  • Use of clearing bearings;
  • Aware of the weather and tidal conditions;
  • Applicable rules and procedures in the port; and
  • Contingency plan in emergencies.

Requirement: The Course is intended for all PPCDL holders who wish to gain confidence in navigating a boat safely in the busy port waters and beyond.
