Feng Sails On
Written by Elaine CHUA

Feng, the boat built for my 2005 Mini Transat's entry, arrived in Singapore safely from Spain with the kind support of NOL / APL's freight services. She was delivered straight to Keico Yard at Ponggol and within a week, her keel and mast were fixed. A short visit back to RSYC ensued before we headed to Malaysia for the Raja Muda International Regatta which took place in November 2004.

Days before the King's Cup, I was lucky enough to meet Alessandro Zamagna in Phuket by pure coincidence. Alex took part in the last Mini Transat and was spending a few months holidaying in Asia when a fellow sailor met him and introduced us. We sailed the King's Cup together with a third crew from Hong Kong, Russ Parker. Their combined experience taught me plenty.

In January 2005, Feng will be racing in the Singapore Straits Regatta and we will be training in local waters until early February 2005, then she will leave for Europe for an intensive training program. If you are at the marina and don't see her tied out on the dock, we are probably out sailing and would return before the sun goes down.

Many thanks to the list of endless volunteers, friends and supporters who lent a hand (when my own two hands were simply not enough), provided me with accommodation on both land and sea, allowed Feng to tie up alongside their yachts – your help is very much appreciated.

Come and visit Feng at the Club before she leaves for Europe.

Happy sailing
